The Three-Day Still Life
with Cassandra Ronning
Want to work on your still-life skills? Would you like to learn to paint quickly and focus on problem solving? This class will focus on teaching you how to complete a small still life in three sessions.
In this 10-week class we will use a structured approach to create smallĀ paintings in oil. We will spend three days per painting. Subject matter will be set up by the instructor and will be a range of objects including fruit, vegetables, metal, bone, crockery, fabric and other objects.
The approach will be working quickly and efficiently. Day one will consist of a small color study, drawing and a value block-in. Day two will be the color block. Day three will be finishing. We will plan on completing three still lifes in this fashion.
It is suggested to have some experience in drawing and/or painting. If you have questions about your experience level please reach out to the instructor to discuss.
Introduction to Still Life
with Jeff Limke
This course follows the Atelier curriculum and is designed to help students further develop both technical and creative skills. Introduction to Still Life builds upon the foundations established in Basic Drawing and Painting, guiding participants through the process of creating a still life in oil.
Students may choose to paint a still life arranged on a flat platform or a trompe l'oeil displayed on a stand. Working through a structured sequence, including a color study, a value study, and a final painting, students will gain practical experience and confidence in bringing a still life to completion. Instruction will emphasize process, composition, lighting, and the effective use of color.
This class provides supportive guidance for painters at all stages, offering step-by-step direction for those new to still life and opportunities for more experienced students to refine their technique and expand their artistic range.

The Alla-Prima Still Life
with Andy Sjodin
Do you want to learn how to create expressive still-life oil paintings in one sitting? This workshop will cover the information you need to learn how to set up, block-in, and finish small, impactful still-life compositions in a short amount of time. As a part of this workshop, Andrew will give demonstrations of the techniques he employs to execute all-prima still lifes covering topics including composition, visual impact, paint handling, color and temperature, light effect, and value. Besides the demonstrations, you will also work on your own compositions which Andrew will help you set up and then will critique throughout the process. This is a three-day workshop. The first two mornings will consist of demonstrations by the instructor. There will be a break for lunch followed by an afternoon session where students will work on their own alla-prima projects. The third day will give students an opportunity to work on their choice of either one or two alla-prima projects throughout the whole day. This workshop is intended to be a low stress and fun experience where students can loosen up, throw paint around, and try to get ideas down on the canvas. All painting ability levels are welcome. The instructor will contact you prior to the workshop to go over the materials list.
